pws aims to be a fully compatible passwordsafe implementation. heart of the project is libpws, a general library for reading and writing passwordsafe compatible files. currently passwordsafe files format v2 and passwordsafe files format v3.2 are supported.
with the 1.0 release of pws libpws will be released as an independant project open for other developers to build new tools around it. however, i discourage anyone on using libpws before it is officially released. the interface will probably change and the library is not documented besides the code itself and the comments.
complete libpws documentation will be released with the 1.0 release.
the other part of the project is pws, a qt-based gui build around libpws which aims to be an easy to use but powerful passwordsafe implementation.
pws and libpws are released under GPLv2.
you will need a recent version of libgcrypt to compile libpws and qt >= 4.3.0 (http://www.trolltech.com) to compile the gui frontend - pws.
be sure to take a look at the known bugs page, maybe the git version incorporates already some important fixes.
opensuse packages are available at http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/darix/. these packages are maintained by Marcus Rueckert .
the current development version is available by use of the git repository.
unstable:
# git clone http://git.pwsafe.de pws.git
stable:
# git clone http://git.pwsafe.de pws.git # cd pws.git # git checkout 0.2.1
there is also a automatic installation script written by Jan Dennis Bungart: pwsinstall.sh.gz
in the first row i would like to mention the company that i am currently working for - B1 Systems GmbH.
without the spare time i got to spent on own projects i don't think that pws would ever have been realized.
